Playing tennis in Agadir: the practical guide

Whether you are settling in Agadir, spending a few days here, or simply looking for a free court tonight, this guide gathers what you need to know before you come and hit a ball.

Morning group lesson on a clay court at the Tennis Agadir Training club

Tennis Agadir Training is four clay courts at Agadir Bay, open every day from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The home page gives you the overview; this one answers the practical questions, one at a time: where the club is and how to get there, what clay changes, how to get a slot, what to pack — and which page to head for depending on whether you are coming to play with friends or to improve with a coach.

Where is the club, and how do I get there?

The address fits on one line: Agadir Bay, boulevard du 20 Août. The club sits in central Agadir, which makes it an easy stop to fit into a day — people come before the office as readily as after the beach.

If it is your first visit, the safest route is to open the directions from ourcontact page: it carries the navigation link, the club's phone number and its email address. A call before you set off beats a lap around the block.

Being in central Agadir, the club is easy to reach however you travel: on foot, by bike, by taxi or by motorbike. And if you are driving, there is parking right beside it.

Once you are there, no more searching: the four courts sit together, ringed by landscaped gardens whose shade serves equally for waiting your turn and catching your breath between sets.

What time can you play?

The courts are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., every day. Sixteen hours, with no closing day: wide enough that you pick your moment rather than fitting yourself around the club.

Early morning, the clay is cool and the courts are quiet — that is the regulars' slot. At the end of the day the floodlights take over: our facilities allow play well after dark, which settles the question for anyone only free once the day is done. In between, it is your call: the middle of the day is the hottest, and it is not the slot we would suggest to a player discovering the region.

As for the season, it barely arises here. Agadir plays all year, and we devoted an article totennis under the Agadir sun for anyone curious.

Clay: what it changes for you

The club's four courts — Court N°1 to Court N°4 — are clay. So there is no surface to choose: you pick a court, not a covering.

If you have only played on hard courts, expect a different game. The ball bounces higher and slows down more, rallies last, and the point is built rather than won with one strike. You also slide instead of stopping dead — a movement that has to be learned, so much so that sliding technique is part of what our tennis school teaches.

The trade-off is a pleasant one: a soft surface, kinder to the joints than concrete. And the feel of it does not translate into words — it is what brings people back.

How do you get a court?

Everything goes through our booking portal. You pick your court, then your slot, then you leave your details: your booking is secured straight away, without waiting for our approval.

Three things worth knowing before you open it. A booking covers one hour of play, and slots start every half hour — so you are not forced to begin on the hour. You can book up to 365 days ahead, which covers tomorrow's match as easily as a trip planned months out. And nothing stops you booking for right now: there is no minimum notice, and a court free within the coming hour is a court you can take.

No account to create, no password to remember. An email address and a phone number are enough: the first receives your confirmation, the second lets the club reach you if something comes up. Nothing to pay online either — payment is made at the club.

The confirmation email goes out automatically and sums up your court, your date and your time. Keep it: it is also where you cancel from, if your plans change, without having to write to us.

The portal is the simplest route and the one we favour: it shows you the slots that are genuinely free and confirms on the spot. If you would still rather go through a person, the club is reachable on WhatsApp — the details are on thecontact page.

The screen-by-screen walkthrough is on the book a court page. And what a court rental includes — what is provided, the packages, the prices — is on thecourt rental page, not here.

What should you bring?

Not much, and nothing hard to find.

A racket — or not. The club rents them, which settles the case of the traveller who was not going to fill a suitcase and the curious visitor trying the game before investing. The terms are on thecourt rental page.

Shoes made for clay. That is the one real point of attention: a smooth sole finds no grip on this surface, and an over-cleated one damages it.

Water, a towel, sports kit. Under the Agadir sun, the water bottle is not an accessory.

The rest — balls, a partner, a coach — we sort out with you. Just ask.

Playing with friends, or improving with a coach?

Two ways to come, and they do not go through the same page.

You already have a partner. Book a court and play. A court takes up to four people, enough for a doubles match without multiplying bookings. That is the route described above.

You want to improve. Then it is a coach you need, not just a slot. The club offers individual lessons, group lessons, sessions for beginners and others for experienced players: the tennis lessons page is the way in, and it points you according to your need. If you already know you want a coach to yourself, go straight to private lessons — and note that the booking form lets you choose your coach.

The two combine, of course: one lesson a week, and free slots alongside to put it into practice.

I am a beginner — and so is my child

Do not go looking for a club "for good players": turning up without knowing how to hold a racket is a case that is planned for, not an exception. The club has programmes designed for beginners, with instructors to guide you through the basics.

For regular practice rather than the occasional match, look to thetennis school. It is organised into three groups — juniors, women, adults — and the women-only lessons welcome every level, from complete beginners to advanced players.

For a child, it is the same page: it carries the registration form and the detail of each format.

I am visiting Agadir — can I play?

Yes, and it happens often: the club welcomes its regulars and players here for a few days alike.

For a match or two, nothing particular to arrange — you book a court like everyone else, with just an email address and a phone number, and no account. This is even the case where booking several months ahead comes into its own: your slots are set before you leave home.

For a week of tennis rather than a couple of hours, look instead at thetennis holiday: it is the format designed for people who come to play, not for people who play because they happen to be here.

Frequently asked questions

What time can I play at the club?

From 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., every day. The club does not close on any day of the week.

How many courts are there, and what surface?

Four, from Court N°1 to Court N°4, all clay.

Do I have to book in advance to play?

It is safer, but it is not a calendar requirement: the portal accepts bookings up to 365 days ahead and sets no minimum notice. So you can hold a slot six months out or within the coming hour, if the court is free.

Do I need an account, or to pay online, to book?

Neither. You give an email address and a phone number, both required, and confirm: the booking is secured immediately, without prior approval from the club. Payment is made at the club.

I have no racket — can I still play?

Yes. The club rents rackets; the terms are on the court rental page.

I am a beginner — are there lessons for me?

Yes. The club runs programmes designed for beginners, led by experienced instructors, and a tennis school organised into three groups: juniors, women and adults.

Can I play in the evening?

Yes. The courts are floodlit, which allows play well after dark, and the last slot runs until 11 p.m.
